Over the past four days, more than 3,000 cases of lumpy skin disease have been reported in Uttarakhand, according to animal husbandry minister Saurabh Bahuguna. According to him, 1,669 of the 3,131 lumpy skin disease cases that have been reported in the hill state as of this writing have recovered.
Lumpy skin disease is an infectious illness in cattle caused by a virus of the family Poxviridae, often known as Neethling virus. Large fever, swollen superficial lymph nodes, and many nodules on the skin and mucous membranes are the disease's hallmarks. The minister said that although the condition has a 1.02 percent mortality rate, it has a 53.3% recovery rate.
Additionally, he stated that a drive to immunize cattle had been started and that interstate movement of cattle had been temporarily halted. According to Bahuguna, the state will immunize more than 7 lakh cattle against the illness, and the process would take 10 to 12 days to complete.
The Kumaon region's Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, and Pithoragarh districts, followed by Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Pauri, are the most hit, according to him.
According to the minister, 16 mules have died in the first 15 days of the Chardham Yatra this year, which is much less than the 47 mules that died in the same period last year.
He attributed it to better facilities created by the state government for the care of mules operating on the route and stricter punishment for mule operators who violate the rules.
