The king came in a red coronation tunic, a cream silk overshirt, and royal navy pants. He was also wearing the crimson velvet Robe of State that his grandfather King George VI wore to be crowned in 1937.
To be crowned, he dressed into the ceremonial regalia used by his predecessors, including the full-length Supertunica coat made of gold silk, the Coronation Sword Belt, and the Imperial Mantle made of gold fabric, the oldest vestment in the service and first created for the coronation of George IV in 1821.
His right hand was given a white leather glove that was embellished with gilded metal thread.
The traditional St. Edward's Crown, which has been worn since King Charles II's coronation in 1661, was used to crown Charles.
