Rahul, Mohammed Shami, Rishabh Pant, and Virat Kohli are among the important players who are not there, but Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, has done a fantastic job leading this youthful team. Generations to come will remember the hosts’ remarkable comeback and performance in the face of adversity after a shocking loss in the first Test in Hyderabad.

While young players like Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Dhruv Jaiswal have undoubtedly shown remarkable poise under pressure and excelled at the bat, Rohit Sharma has erased any concerns about his durability with two impressive performances: a decisive 131 in the third Test and a smooth 55 while chasing 192 in the Ranchi Test.

The 36-year-old Mumbaikar might now pull off another miracle in the fifth Test. To overtake former India opener Gautam Gambhir’s Test aggregate, Rohit needs only 121 more runs. Gambhir played 58 Test matches for India between 2004 and 2016. With nine centuries, Gambhir’s 4154 runs at an average of 41.95 were scored.

Although Rohit Sharma has amassed 4034 runs in Tests so far, his average has been a healthy 44.82 in the same amount of Tests played (58 Tests) as Gautam Gambhir. In addition, Rohit has two more Test hundreds than Gambhir, with 11 overall.

But Rohit Sharma didn’t really start to thrive in red-ball cricket and cemented his place among the greatest batting players of all time until he was elevated to the opening position in the Test team. Rohit has opened for 31 Test matches and amassed 2449 runs at an average of over fifty, with eight hundreds.

The skipper has had a long career. He began playing Test cricket in 2013, which was six years after he played his first international match for India. After entering the game at No. 6 and scoring an intriguing 177 runs in his first innings against the West Indies, he went on to play an undefeated 111 at the Wankhede Stadium in Sachin Tendulkar’s last international match.

Rohit’s goal will be to win 4-1 in order to round off the current series against England on a positive note.
