Bade Miyan vs. Maidaan Pushpa 2, Chote Miyan, and Singham Once more: 2024 box office conflicts and what to anticipate

The phenomenal box office comeback of the previous year has elevated hopes for 2024. A handful of films are slated to clash during the next several months, creating an intriguing schedule. Numerous conflicts are scheduled for the next year, ranging from Pushpa 2: The Rule and Singham Again on Independence Day to Crakk – Jeetegaa toh Jiyegaa and Article 370 on February 23, Bade Miyan Chow Miyan (BMCM) and Maidaan on April 10 (Eid), Emergency and Chandu Champion on June 14, and many more. What effect may this have on business?

Trade analyst and producer Girish Johar says he wasn’t “too happy about” the I-Day overlap between Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule and Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again, despite the fact that conflicts are expected over festival weekends. He claims there’s a strong chance of them competing with one other since they are both “commercial big-screen franchises”. There’s talk that Pushpa 2 may be delayed. Johar discloses.

The Telugu movie Hanuman is the most recent example of the remarkable box office success of films from the South in the Hindi belt, which makes this dish, particularly concerning.

Even with conflicts, the examples of the last year—like Gadar 2 and OMG 2—showed that a fight for the top spot at the box office need not always result in catastrophe.

Sanjay Mehta, a distributor and film exhibitor, notes that Dunki and Salaar: Part I were released simultaneously on Christmas. Because of Shah Rukh Khan’s two earlier successes, Pathaan and Jawan, everyone rushed to see Dunki. Shows for Dunki were lowered in tier 2 and tier 3 cities and Salamis were raised when the public realized it wasn’t in par.

Filmmakers will face further scheduling issues in 2024, when general elections are held. Stay away from election days. Conflicts are unavoidable since there are few choices throughout the IPL months and exam seasons.

There are only around 52 Fridays in a year, according to trade expert Taran Adarsh. One release cannot be made in a single day.”

Furthermore, 2024 may be a dismal year at the box office since it won’t have any films from the three Khans—Salman, Shah Rukh, and Aamir—or from A-list actors like Ranbir Kapoor. A movie’s success ultimately depends on its substance.

The performance of the film is influenced by its star cast, social media hype, and trailer responses, but Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director of PVR INOX Ltd., believes that “organic buzz” is still important. “Exciting clashes will spice up the scenario” in 2024, according to him. “Highly anticipated films that collide are beneficial because they attract a lot of viewers,” he concludes.
