Mohan de Silva, the secretary of Sri Lanka’s cricket team, resigns after the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 horror show

As a result of Sri Lanka Cricket’s lackluster performance in the current ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India, Mohan de Silva, the secretary, has resigned.

The Lankan Lions are no longer in the running to advance to the tournament’s knockout round after only managing to win twice in their seven games at the ICC showcase in the neighboring nation.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-267635″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-kajols-life-turned-around-with-this-movie-took-an-executive-decision-at-20-downloa.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com kajols life turned around with this movie took an executive decision at 20 downloa” width=”1409″ height=”827″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-kajols-life-turned-around-with-this-movie-took-an-executive-decision-at-20-downloa.jpg 293w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-kajols-life-turned-around-with-this-movie-took-an-executive-decision-at-20-downloa-150×88.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1409px) 100vw, 1409px” title=”Mohan de Silva, the secretary of Sri Lanka's cricket team, resigns after the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 horror show 12″>

To make matters worse, the hosts humiliated Sri Lanka in a lopsided match as India crushed the Lankan team 302 runs to win the group stage match at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, eliminating Sri Lanka from consideration for a quarterfinal spot.

De Silva resigned when Sri Lankan Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe demanded a general resignation of the Sri Lankan Cricket administration in the wake of the team’s crushing defeat against India.

In a statement, Ranasinghe held the SLC administration and the selection committee accountable for the fiasco.

The team management was asked to provide an investigation report by the SLC administration, headed by Shammi Silva, due to the team’s crushing defeat, in which they were swept out for 55 runs.

Silva won the chair election without opposition, serving a third consecutive term at SLC. His tenure is only set to end in 2025.

After winning the toss, the Lankan Lions chose to bat first against India, and the men in blue successfully amassed a massive 357 runs in 50 overs at a cost of eight wickets.

Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, and former Indian captain Virat Kohli all contributed half-centuries to the enormous total, helping the Indian team.

The bowling team, led by the outstanding Mohammed Shami, went amok and bundled the former World Cup champions in 20 overs, destroying the Lankan batting order in the process.

Mohammed Siraj took three wickets in the ICC World Cup, while Shami claimed the most wickets for India with a fifer.

On November 6, Sri Lanka will play their next match in Delhi against Bangladesh.
