After a tense first leg, Pakistan had a great opportunity to win the match, but their appeal was turned down in the closing stages of play.

After Pakistan’s tailenders Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj batted, they needed only one wicket to win. In the 46th over, Shamsi was struck on the front pad by bowler Haris Rauf.

Shamsi was declared not out by the on-field umpire, and Pakistan quickly decided to use the Decision Review System (DRS). Replays revealed that the ball would have continued to cut the leg stump, and the umpire’s decision to stay on the field was affirmed.

Pakistan was devastated by the review since a wicket on that ball would have given them the victory.

The players from Pakistan were utterly devastated by the outcome, which did not go their way.

A video of the game’s suspenseful phase was posted by the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) official Instagram account. The post’s caption said, “By the barest of margins.”

With the victory, South Africa’s World Cup winning run now stands at three games. With 10 points after six games, Temba Bavuma’s team is now leading the World Cup rankings. On October 17, they suffered their only loss in the campaign against the Netherlands.

Pakistan, on the other side, hasn’t played well in their last few games. Babar Azam’s team is suffering at sixth place in the World Cup points standings after losing four games in a row. After six games, they have accumulated four points so far.

Pakistan scored 270 against South Africa on Friday while batting first. With a useful innings of fifty-two, Saud Shakeel emerged as Pakistan’s leading scorer. Babar Azam, the captain, also scored a vital fifty from sixty-five balls.

With 240 runs on the board and seven wickets down, South Africa found themselves in a difficult position during the run chase. Ultimately, Keshav Maharaj was the one who gave South Africa the victory runs.

Maharaj, who was still undefeated at seven, and Lungi Ngidi forged an important 10-run partnership for the ninth wicket.
