<p>“I like doing extraordinary things,” said Asha Bhosle. I made the decision to do a grand performance on my 90th birthday. I don’t think anybody has ever done this in the history of the planet. She often doesn’t host parties and instead enjoys her birthdays with her immediate family. On the other hand, this significant birthday required something unique. But this birthday is different. I will turn 90. What better way to turn 90 than to do a concert, I reasoned,” she continued.</p>
<p>On September 8, Asha Bhosle’s birthday performance, dubbed Asha@90, will fill Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena. She will thrill the audience by singing some of her timeless hits and paying a moving homage to some of India’s famous artists and singers. Her social media posts provide an intriguing look into her next show’s preparations.</p>
<p>She made her playback debut at the young age of 10 with the song Chala Chala Nav Bala in the Marathi movie Majha Bal (1943), which marked the beginning of her career. In 1949’s Raat Ki Raani, she cut the first solo Hindi cinema song she ever wrote. It wasn’t easy for Asha Bhosle to launch her career in a period dominated by playback superstars like Geeta Dutt and Shamshad Begum, but she fought obstacles head-on and triumphed, ultimately lending her voice to over 12,000 songs.</p>
<p>She has worked with notable music producers from various generations throughout the years, including OP Nayyar, Shankar-Jaikishen, RD Burman, Khayyam, Bappi Lahiri, and AR Rahman. She developed her own style thanks to her capacity to bring variety, vivacity, and brightness to the recording studio. “I never want to be a duplicate or clone of another person. I’m happy that my style of music is now recognized as the Asha Bhosle style,” she stated.</p>
