Silvina Luna, an Argentine actress, passed away on Thursday, August 31. According to mirror.co.uk, she spent 79 days in the hospital at Hospital Italiano getting treatment for problems after her operation in 2011.

According to regional news sources, her brother Ezequiel Luna granted the go-ahead for physicians to take her off the ventilator around midday on Thursday. The devastating loss was described as “an ending that aches, hurts” by Silvina’s lawyer, Fernando Burlando.

He hopes that her fight will “wake up” the authorities, causing society to “take notice and there will be no more deaths.” The cosmetic surgery was performed on the actress sometime in June or July 2011 by Anibal Lotocki.

A patient who had surgery on him in 2010 died in 2021, and Dr. Lotocki is now facing charges. He gave Silvina an injection of a substance that was forbidden by Argentina’s National Administration of Drugs, Food, and Medical Technology—polymethylmethacrylate.

When Silvina was treated for kidney stones in 2015, she had her first medical emergency. She was placed on a weekly dialysis schedule until a kidney transplant became available after she was identified with renal insufficiency and hypercalcemia by medical professionals.

She went to Miami in 2016 to see Argentinian physician Critsitan Perez, who took out the harmful material from her buttocks. He said in a statement to C5N television that “Silvina acquired an autoimmune condition as a result of the drugs as a result of her surgery. All sufferers get severe renal failure and die away.

Silvina’s health worsened as she awaited a new kidney, and on June 13 she was admitted to the hospital. Prior to being taken off the ventilator on June 29, she was sedated for about two weeks.

The hospital reported that Silvina was “breathing on her own, with kinesiological, nutritional, and psychological rehabilitation” in a statement on August 19. But recently, she had a bacterial infection, and on Wednesday, August 30, she had another intubation before being taken off life support the next day.

The Buenos Aires Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into Silvina’s passing and mandated that her body be sent to a local morgue for an autopsy. Her death came only two weeks after that of TV personality and fashion consultant Mariano Caprarola, who passed away as a result of complications following a butt lift procedure done by Dr. Lotocki in 2010.

Dr. Lotocki received a four-year jail term in February 2022 as a result of a medical malpractice case Silvina and three other women filed against him. He was prohibited from practicing medicine for five years by a court in July.

The surgeon isn’t in jail, however. While the National Chamber of Criminal Appeals considers his penalty, he continues to be free.
