US Open: Ons Jabeur overcomes a respiratory issue, and Osorio advances to the second round of women’s singles

<p>The runner-up for 2022, who turned 29 on Monday, overcame respiratory problems to beat out Colombian teenager Camila Osorio, who almost placed the cherry on top of a delayed birthday party with a brave performance inside Louis Armstrong Stadium.</p>
<p>Jabeur raced 4-1 up by sprinkling in her signature drop strokes and looping lobs while shifting direction at will.</p>
<p>against Thursday, the Tunisian will take against Linda Noskova, a 16-year-old from the Czech Republic who defeated Madison Brengle 6-2, 6-1.</p>
<p>In a first-round match of the women’s singles category, Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated Leylah Fernandez, the Canadian who finished second in the 2021 US Open women’s singles competition.</p>
<p>Alexandrova was able to take control of a close encounter with a lot of high drama and win 7-6(4), 5-7, 6-4.</p>
<p>Day 2 also saw more first-round matches, with Katie Boulter of the United Kingdom defeating Diane Parry of France 6-4, 6-0, and Maria Tatjana of Germany losing to Petra Martic of Croatia 6-2, 6-1.</p>
