According to Prathamesh Mallya, deputy vice-president (research), non-agro commodities & currencies, Angel One, gold prices were steady on Thursday despite a strong dollar and increasing bond rates. In advance of Jerome Powell, chair of the US Federal Reserve, speaking at the Jackson Hole conference, investors showed caution.

The symposium, an annual gathering, has developed into a focal point for insights into the US Fed’s policy orientation, he said. Powell’s speech on Friday is anticipated to provide insight into the likely course of interest rates.

“The tight job market remained, driven by the Fed’s forceful rate changes, despite a decline in new applications for unemployment benefits. Following the release of the unemployment claims data, the dollar recovered, and US Treasury rates rose. This reduced demand for gold, according to Mallya.

He anticipates gold to trade higher toward 58,970 levels, where a break would likely cause a rise to 59,030 levels.
