Ravichandran Ashwin recalls how his first encounter with Rahul Dravid changed his perspective, saying, “He’s brainwashed me”

Ravichandran Ashwin has discussed how Rahul Dravid, the current head coach of India, may have “brainwashed” him into putting the team’s goals ahead of his own personal accomplishments.

On Wednesday, Ashwin claimed his 33rd five-wicket haul in a Test match, passing James Anderson of England on the list of players with the most in the format.

Currently ranking sixth all-time, the famous Muttiah Muralitharan, who amassed 67 five-wicket hauls in his career, is ahead of the Indian offspinner.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-73659″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-ravichandran-ashwin-recalls-how-his-first-encounter-with-rahul-dravid-changed-his-perspective-saying-hes-brainwashed-me-download-2023-07-13t170544.019.jpg” alt=”” width=”1262″ height=”700″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-ravichandran-ashwin-recalls-how-his-first-encounter-with-rahul-dravid-changed-his-perspective-saying-hes-brainwashed-me-download-2023-07-13t170544.019.jpg 301w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-ravichandran-ashwin-recalls-how-his-first-encounter-with-rahul-dravid-changed-his-perspective-saying-hes-brainwashed-me-download-2023-07-13t170544.019-150×83.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1262px) 100vw, 1262px” />

Ashwin reminisced on his professional career, which he believes has gone by’so quickly’ that he can scarcely recollect anything from it, during an interview with the media after the conclusion of the first day of play in the first Test between India and West Indies.

Actually, I’m surprised at how quickly my career has gone by when I reflect about it. It’s been going on for almost 14 years, and if you including the IPL, the trip has lasted about 15 or 16 years. It just ended up that way. All I can say is that when I first met Rahul Dravid in his capacity as a coach, he said, “It’s not about how many wickets you take, how many runs you score.” All of them will be forgotten. Only the wonderful memories you make together as a team will last, Ashwin stated.

“I wholeheartedly support that. I’m not sure whether he brainwashed me into acting that way. The 36-year-old, who has increased his total number of Test wickets to 479, said, “From my perspective, I absolutely believe that this trip has gone by so quickly that I’m not even able to recall what has occurred and how it has gone through.

“I’m incredibly appreciative of the experience and everything the game has given me, and I have a lot to be thankful for. I don’t know how many more of these opportunities I’ll have, but I’ll make an effort to fully appreciate anything that comes my way,” he said.

When cricket resumed during the covid epidemic, according to Ashwin, he vowed to take advantage of anything that came his way.

“After Covid, when cricket started up again, I made a commitment to embrace anything that occurred, whether I’m playing, being benched, or quitting. I’ll be happy no matter what happens,” he said.
